The final funeral rites for the late Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and respected statesman, will be observed today, Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the Astro Turf Park in Damongo. The ceremony is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.

The announcement was made in a special invitation by the King and Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Area, Yagbonwura Bi-kunuto Jewu Soale I, on behalf of the Gonja Traditional Council, his chiefs, and subjects.

Alhaji Muniru, who also held the traditional title Sandape-Wura Buwulonso I, tragically lost his life in the August 6 helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. He was among eight high-profile government officials and military crew members who perished in the tragedy.

The ill-fated helicopter was en route to Obuasi when it went down. Other victims included Minister of Defence Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong, and former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye. The crew, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, also died in the crash.

Sunday’s funeral is expected to draw a large gathering, including government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders, diplomats, and thousands of mourners from across the country to Damongo, the capital of the Savannah Region.
