The Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister, Hon Emelia Arthur, in collaboration with the Ghana National Aquaculture Association at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has launched “Tilapia & Catfish Friday” to boost demand for locally farmed fish under the Feed Ghana Agenda.

According to the Minister, framing the campaign as both a nutrition and livelihoods push.
“Eat Ghana fish, create Ghanaian jobs. We’re scaling hatcheries, reducing feed costs, and expanding cold-chain and market access so affordable farmed fish reaches every community.”
She lauded farmers and processors for rolling out value-added products, smoked fillets, fish crackers, fish powder, and fish sausages, adding that such innovation extends shelf life, opens export doors, and keeps more value in Ghana.
The initiative also prioritises more quality fingerlings from new hatcheries; affordable, nutritious feed; additional cold storage and market infrastructure; tighter farm biosecurity and disease control; stronger researcher–industry collaboration; and strict food-safety and environmental standards.
“Aquaculture is one of our fastest-growing fisheries segments. Tilapia & Catfish Friday is a simple habit with a big impact, better nutrition for households and steady jobs for women and youth across the value chain,” Hon. Arthur noted
