Former NEIP CEO detained by NIB over alleged sale of foreign scholarships

The National Investigation Bureau (NIB) has taken former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, into custody to assist with investigations into allegations that government-sponsored foreign scholarships were being sold.

Confirmation of his arrest came from Dzifa Gunu, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Digital Centres Limited, who disclosed in a Facebook post that Kofi Nkansah was picked up after allegedly declining earlier invitations from the NIB to provide evidence backing his claims.

“Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has been picked up by the NIB to substantiate his allegations of the sale of foreign scholarships. He is currently in the grips of the NIB after refusing their invitation,” she stated.

Kofi Nkansah’s arrest follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, who ordered a full-scale investigation into the allegations after they surfaced during a radio discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM.

During the broadcast, the former NEIP boss claimed that individuals were made to pay money to secure government-sponsored scholarships for studies abroad.

The President’s directive was conveyed by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Fosu, who described the allegations as troubling and deserving of urgent scrutiny.

In a formal communication dated February 3, 2026, the claims were characterised as “serious and of grave public concern,” with the NIB tasked to establish the facts, identify any persons involved, and determine the authenticity of the allegations.

The Bureau has been instructed to submit its findings directly to the President for further action.
