Four arrested as police intercept 315 parcels of suspected Indian hemp in Tema

The Tema Community 1 District Police have arrested four men after 315 compressed parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp were discovered hidden in the tyres of a truck at the Community 1 Industrial Area.

The suspects, Nura Sali, 44, Pius Chukwuma, 49, Mustapha Umar, 18, and Abdulai Amayau, 23, were picked up on Monday, September 8, 2025, following a police tip-off.

According to a police statement, the truck, registered GN 7291-16, has since been impounded while the suspects remain in custody to assist with investigations.

ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs at the Tema Regional Police Command, said the officers carried out the operation with professionalism and assured the public of the Command’s commitment to tackling drug crimes.

“The Regional Police Command commends the arresting officers for their professionalism and reiterates its resolve to combat drug-related offences to safeguard our communities,” the statement noted.

The Command further encouraged the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station for prompt action.
