GES cautions heads against unauthorised registration of Form Two students for WASSCE

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned heads of Senior High Schools and Technical Schools against the unauthorised registration of students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), warning that offenders will face severe sanctions.

In a statement issued in Accra on January 8, 2026, and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the GES said it has observed with concern that some school heads are illegally registering Form Two students and private candidates for the WASSCE, allegedly in exchange for fees.

According to the Service, such actions contravene established rules governing WASSCE registration and constitute misconduct and abuse of office.

GES clarified that only Form Three students whose academic records and progression from Year One to Year Three can be properly traced in a school’s database are eligible to be registered by school authorities for the examination.

“Management stresses that the Head of School is authorised to register only Form Three students whose academic records from year one to year three are traceable in the school’s database,” the statement said.

The Service further emphasised that no head of school or school official is permitted under any circumstances to register Form Two students or private candidates for the WASSCE.

GES warned that any school head or official found engaging in the unauthorised registration of candidates, including the charging of monies for such purposes, will be sanctioned in accordance with Ghana Education Service and West African Examinations Council (WAEC) regulations.

“All heads and school officials are hereby cautioned that breach of this directive will attract severe sanctions, without exception,” the statement added.
