The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly denied allegations that it is secretly recruiting teachers and selling appointment letters for fees as high as GH¢25,000.

In a statement issued on Friday, December 12, and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service said its attention had been drawn to a viral video and media reports suggesting that individuals were paying money to secure teaching appointments through a covert recruitment process.
GES described the allegations as false and misleading, insisting that they do not reflect the Service’s recruitment procedures.
According to the statement, the claims may have stemmed from a recent administrative process following the extension of financial clearance granted in October 2025. The extension was meant to allow the onboarding of applicants from 2024 whose earlier clearance had expired.
The Service explained that the resumption of onboarding led to the issuance of new appointment letters in specific cases.
“For instance, applicants who had earlier been issued with fake appointment letters were given new genuine letters since they could not be onboarded with the fake ones,” the statement said.
GES stressed that the replacement letters were issued at no cost and that no payment is required at any stage of its recruitment process.
The Service has therefore urged members of the public who have been asked to pay money, or who have evidence of such demands, to report the matter to the appropriate security agencies for investigation.
GES further assured the public that its recruitment procedures remain unchanged, noting that whenever financial clearance is obtained for a major recruitment exercise, an official announcement is made to invite qualified applicants nationwide.
The statement reiterated that teacher recruitment under the Ghana Education Service is conducted openly, transparently, and free of charge.
