Ghana Armed Forces commissions locally made jeep

In a commendable display of innovation, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has officially commissioned a locally made mini Jeep designed to enhance easy transportation within the barracks. The brain behind this impressive creation is Warrant Officer Class One, Awal Mohammed, a skilled driver within the GAF.

The mini Jeep, named GAMIJ (Ghana Army Mini Jeep), is a modification of the widely used tricycle, locally known as “Aboboyaa.” Boasting low fuel consumption, the GAMIJ aims to provide a cost-effective and efficient means of transportation within military compounds. Priced at GHC60,000.00, the Jeep was unveiled during the West African Security Social Activity (WASSA).

During the unveiling, the manufacturer, Warrant Officer Awal Mohammed, showcased the features of the GAMIJ, emphasizing its practicality and adaptability to the unique needs of military operations. Authorities have announced that each military unit under the command will be allocated one of these mini Jeeps to facilitate their daily errands.

The inaugural ride of the GAMIJ took place with notable figures on board, including Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Nii Dzasetse of La, and Major General Rtd Samuel Odotei, the guest speaker. The successful test drive underscored the functionality and reliability of the locally manufactured mini Jeep.

This initiative not only reflects the GAF’s commitment to embracing homegrown solutions but also showcases the talent and ingenuity within its ranks. The GAMIJ project not only provides a practical solution for barracks transportation but also stands as a testament to the creative potential within the Ghana Armed Forces.
