Ghanaian students studying abroad under government scholarships have announced plans to stage coordinated protests at Ghanaian embassies across the globe on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, over the non-payment of long-overdue stipends and allowances.

The students, under the banner of the Coalition of Ghanaian Scholars Abroad, say they have gone 14 months without receiving their monthly stipends from the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat. In addition, book and health allowances have reportedly not been paid for two academic years.
In a joint statement released by student representatives across Europe, North America, and Asia, the group accused the government of neglecting its responsibility to support their academic pursuits, despite multiple appeals and attempts at diplomatic engagement.
“This protest is not a political move. It is a desperate cry for survival. Many of us are stranded, unable to pay rent, buy food, or access healthcare. We feel forgotten by the country we are representing,” the statement read.
The Coalition emphasized that the demonstration will be peaceful and aimed at drawing public and government attention to their plight while demanding urgent action and accountability from the authorities responsible for the delayed disbursements.
The students are calling on the government to honor its financial commitments and ensure the sustainability of the scholarship programme that supports Ghana’s human capital development abroad.
