The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has rolled out a special bonus package of GHS832 per pound of gold to cushion licensed miners, in what it describes as a bold move to motivate players in the sector and curb gold smuggling.

Announced on Wednesday, 27th August 2025, by GoldBod’s Media Relations Officer, Prince Kwame Minka, the initiative pushes the local market price of a pound of gold from GHS8,868 to GHS9,700.
GoldBod says the initiative is a direct response to complaints from miners about the drop in local gold prices following the steady appreciation of the Ghana cedi.
“Licensed miners have been key to Ghana’s increased gold output and foreign exchange earnings. This bonus ensures they do not suffer from the very currency stability they helped the country achieve.”
The Board has directed its licensed traders across the country to ensure prompt payment of the bonus to all miners who sell their gold through approved channels
