The government will today, Thursday, September 4, 2025, announce its position in the ongoing standoff with MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv.

The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has warned that the company risks being shut down by September 6 if it fails to reduce subscription fees.
MultiChoice is already facing sanctions for failing to submit critical pricing data to regulators. The fines, set at GH¢10,000 per day, have now accumulated to more than GH¢150,000.
Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George said the government remains resolute in its demands but is open to dialogue.
“Last night, a team from MultiChoice reached out and made some proposals. We’ve asked for further concessions to be made. I’ve given them up to close of business today,” he revealed.
He added, “the Ministry will make an official declaration today, but there are strong indications that an amicable resolution could be reached before the deadline.”
The standoff has sparked keen public interest, with many consumers and industry analysts describing the cost of pay-TV services in Ghana as excessive.
If talks fail, government could suspend MultiChoice’s operations—a move that would disrupt services to millions of households nationwide.
