GTDC digital platforms could generate $4m annually – Prof. Kobby Mensah

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), Prof. Kobby Mensah, says the newly introduced digital platforms under the company’s Reset Agenda could generate at least $4 million annually when fully operational.

Speaking at the Big Tourism Conversation held at the Accra City Hotel on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Prof. Mensah explained that the platforms, the Ghana Tourism Marketplace (GTM) and the Ghana Tourism Investment Platform (GTiP), are designed to unify vendors, users, and service providers under one umbrella to simplify transactions and track the industry’s daily contributions.

“With these platforms, you can access services easily, pay for services easily, and give your feedback easily. The most important thing is that we can report to the President very easily, because we can tell the contribution of the tourism industry day by day, when this one is fully operationalized,” he said.

In an interview with Onlinetimesgh, Prof. Mensah noted that conservative calculations show the platforms could rake in $4 million from just 25 percent of tourist arrivals, with projections increasing significantly when optimized.

“We believe we are not being too ambitious. Anything between four million, in terms of the early stats, can actually be generated,” he stated.

He stressed that the initiative goes beyond transactions, as it will also provide real-time data on tourism infrastructure, such as roads, electricity, and water access, to guide investment and policy decisions.

Meanwhile, President of the Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF), Charles Adu-Gyamfi, described the Reset Agenda as a bold step to reposition Ghana’s tourism sector. He highlighted the GTM, GTiP, and the Destination Marketing Awards (DMA) as key interventions that would boost growth and competitiveness in the industry.

Mr. Adu-Gyamfi assured GTDC of GHATOF’s support, urging stakeholders across government, private sector, communities, and international partners to embrace the agenda to build a sustainable and resilient tourism industry.
