Health Minister, police move to strengthen security at public hospitals

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, says his ministry is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service to boost security at public hospitals nationwide.

The move follows an alleged attack on health workers at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) by a group led by activist Ralph St Williams.

Mr. Akandoh emphasized that incidents of violence against health professionals had made it necessary for the government to act swiftly.

“We will have an arrangement with the police going forward. When incidents like this happen, they shape government policy direction. I am now reflecting not only on Ridge Hospital but also on extending security to other health facilities,” the Minister explained.

He further revealed that the initiative would be rolled out in partnership with District Chief Executives (DCEs), district health directors, and the police to ensure hospitals can receive immediate security support whenever required.

“This is not just about one hospital,” he added. “It is about protecting both health workers and patients across the country.”
