ICAG responds to GTEC directive on CEO’s ‘Dr’ title

The Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) has responded to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) regarding concerns over the use of an unearned doctoral title by its Chief Executive Officer, Eric Oduro Osae.

In a letter addressed to GTEC’s Director-General, Joyce Adu, Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs at ICAG, confirmed that the Institute has taken steps to address the Commission’s directive.

“Following paragraph 4 of your letter, the Institute has taken appropriate steps to address your concern and has accordingly issued a new communiqué on the use of the academic title ‘Dr’ of the Chief Executive Officer,” the letter stated.

The Institute reassured stakeholders of its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and accuracy in all communications.

“The Institute remains committed to upholding transparency, accuracy, and the highest standards of professional conduct in all its communications and representations,” the letter added.

Joyce Adu further emphasized that ICAG treats such matters with the seriousness they deserve.

“Stakeholders are assured that matters of this nature are treated with the requisite seriousness and addressed in line with the Institute’s governance and ethical frameworks.”

Copies of the correspondence and the newly issued communiqué have been shared with the ICAG President, the CEO, and key officials at GTEC, including the Deputy Director-General and Director of Corporate Affairs.

This development comes days after GTEC withdrew its recognition of ICAG, citing the continued use of an unverified doctoral title by its CEO, which the Commission described as a breach of quality assurance protocols.

ICAG’s response signals its willingness to comply with regulatory oversight while reaffirming its commitment to professional standards and governance.
