IERPP to hold press conference on GH¢2bn bawa Rock–GoldBod claim on January 27

The Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP) will on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, hold a press conference to present an independent analysis of the controversial GH¢2 billion claim involving Bawa Rock Company Limited and the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

The event, themed “Bawa Rock, GoldBod, and the ¢2 Billion Claim: Fact or Fiction?”, is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Ghana International Press Centre (GiPC) in Accra. It is expected to attract participants from the media, civil society, policy institutions, and the general public.

IERPP said the engagement forms part of its mandate to promote evidence-based public discourse and policy accountability, particularly on issues with significant financial and governance implications for the state. According to the institute, the GH¢2 billion claim has generated widespread public debate, conflicting narratives, and concerns about transparency, making it necessary for rigorous economic and policy scrutiny.

At the press conference, IERPP researchers and policy analysts are expected to present findings examining the basis of the claim, the contractual and institutional framework governing the Bawa Rock–GoldBod relationship, and the potential fiscal implications for Ghana. The institute will also assess whether verifiable facts support the claim or have been exaggerated or misrepresented in public discussions.

IERPP noted that claims of such magnitude, with possible consequences for public finances, contractual integrity, and investor confidence, must be subjected to objective and nonpartisan analysis grounded in data and established policy principles.

Media organisations have been invited to cover the event, which will also be streamed live on IERPP’s official social media platforms to ensure broad public access. The institute said the engagement is aimed at separating fact from speculation and strengthening accountability in public economic decision-making.
