Interior Ministry begins vetting for ‘historic diaspora community’ citizenship applicants

The Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President, has announced the commencement of vetting for applicants under the “Historic Diaspora Community” citizenship initiative.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the Ministry disclosed that applicants will be scheduled in batches for vetting at the DuBois Centre in Cantonments, Accra, beginning Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

“Applicants for the Historic Diaspora Community will be scheduled in batches for vetting at the Dubois Centre, Cantonments in Accra, starting February 11.”

According to the Ministry, applicants are advised to wait for official notification regarding their specific vetting dates before reporting to the centre. This, it explained, is to prevent congestion and ensure an orderly process.

The statement further acknowledged the high level of interest in the programme, noting that the large number of applicants and the limited timeframe ahead of the planned ceremonial swearing-in on March 5, 2026, may mean that not all interested persons will be accommodated in the current phase.

“Due to the overwhelming number of applicants and the limited time frame for the ceremonial swearing-in scheduled for March 5, not all interested persons will be able to participate in the process.”

Despite this, the government has assured applicants that the citizenship process remains ongoing. The Ministry, working with the Diaspora Affairs Office, said the online registration portal remains open and that no eligible applicant will be excluded.

“The citizenship process remains open via https://e-services.mint.gov.gh for registration, and no one will be disadvantaged,” the statement said.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to formalise citizenship for members of the Historic Diaspora Community seeking to reconnect with Ghana.
