For many years, students at Nuaso Anglican Primary School in Ghana’s Eastern Region faced significant challenges due to inadequate classroom facilities.

A devastating rainstorm had previously destroyed their main classroom block, leading to overcrowded makeshift structures and necessitating a shift system to accommodate all pupils.
In a transformative development, American rapper Ja Rule, in partnership with the non-profit organization Pencils of Promise, initiated the construction of a new six-unit classroom block to address these issues.
This collaboration aims to provide a safe and conducive learning environment, eliminating the need for the shift system and ensuring that students can focus on their studies without concerns about overcrowding or adverse weather conditions.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Ja Rule expressed his deep commitment to the project, stating, “I know that this is going to be an opportunity that will last for many, many years to come.”
He emphasized the integral role of education in community development, remarking, “For me, education is the pillar of any community.”
The Chief Executive Officer of Pencils of Promise, Kailee Scales, highlighted the broader significance of the construction, noting that it symbolizes building pillars of knowledge and hope for the community.
The organization’s Country Director, Freeman Gobah, acknowledged the challenges posed by the school’s topography during construction but reiterated the team’s dedication to completing the project.
For the students, the new classroom block represents more than just a building; it embodies hope and a fresh start. With improved facilities, they now have the opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that supports their educational aspirations.
