Kabaka Foundation brings hope to children with disabilities at Nsawam OTC

The Kabaka Foundation has donated quantities of food items, toiletries, and learning materials to the Orthopaedic Training Centre (OTC) at Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

The items, presented on Friday, September 12, 2025, included bags of rice, sugar, cooking oil, canned foods, toiletries, and stationery.

Founder of the Foundation and Nkosuohene of Kwahu Nkwatia, Nana Owiredu Wadie I, said the gesture formed part of his humanitarian support to vulnerable groups, particularly in his birth month, to demonstrate love and care.

He reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting the OTC in its mission of improving the mobility and quality of life of children with physical disabilities.

Receiving the items, Rev. Elizabeth Newman, Director of OTC, expressed appreciation to the Kabaka Foundation, noting that such support helps reduce the Centre’s financial burden and frees resources for rehabilitation services.

Established in 1961 by Brother Tarcisius de Ruyter of the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD), the OTC provides rehabilitation services for the physically challenged in Ghana and across West Africa.

The Centre comprises an orthopedic clinic and workshop, a children’s department, a prosthetics and orthopedic training college, and a daycare facility for children with cerebral palsy. It records more than 7,000 in-patient visits annually.

The donation is part of activities marking Nana Owiredu Wadie I’s birthday month. Other initiatives include the sod-cutting for a new Antenatal Unit and Adolescent Corner at Ga East Municipal Hospital, donations to orphanages, and free health screenings for hawkers in Accra.

The Kabaka Foundation has, over the years, supported healthcare, education, and other sectors in Ghana as part of efforts to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Notable projects include the 80-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Eastern Regional Hospital, commissioned in 2023, which has significantly reduced neonatal deaths in the region; the newly constructed Antenatal and Postnatal Care Unit at the Ashongman Reproductive & Child Health Post, inaugurated in June 2025; the distribution of sanitary pads to schoolgirls; the construction of classrooms, a police station, residential facilities for officers, and a court complex; as well as sponsorship of several brilliant but needy university students.
