In a bold move, Kwaku Boateng, Chairman of the Automobile Dealers Union of Ghana, has thrown his hat into the ring, vying for the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidacy in the Awutu Senya East constituency. His target: unseating the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson, in the upcoming primaries.

Confident in his abilities, Boateng boldly predicts a resounding 90% victory in the parliamentary primaries, despite this being his first attempt at the position. He remains determined to secure the NPP’s ticket for the 2024 general elections, citing concerns over Hawa Koomson’s perceived declining popularity, which he believes could jeopardize the party’s hold on the constituency.
Boateng, who submitted his nomination forms earlier in the week, outlines talent and youth development as key pillars of his campaign strategy. He envisions tapping into the potential of the youth in the constituency and sees himself as a catalyst for positive change.
In contrast, incumbent MP Mavis Hawa Koomson, seeking a fourth term, is confident in her ability to break the “eight-year cycle” and has urged delegates to overwhelmingly endorse her on January 27, 2024.
Boateng, having sought permission and blessings from traditional authorities at the Odukpong Ofaakor Palace for campaigning on their land, expresses optimism for victory. Traditional authorities have called for a respectful campaign, urging candidates to avoid resorting to insults.
The NPP party leadership has assured all candidates of an equal playing field during the contest, ensuring a fair and transparent process as the party navigates the intricate dynamics leading up to the crucial 2024 elections.
