The Office of the Presidency has issued a strict directive barring all government officials from attending the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York unless they receive explicit written clearance from the Chief of Staff.

The directive, signed by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, follows President John Dramani Mahama’s recent Cabinet pronouncement on trimming international travel to ensure cost-effective and coherent national representation.
According to the statement, no Minister, Deputy Minister, CEO of a state-owned enterprise, political appointee, civil or public servant may accept or attend UNGA 80 or any associated side events, bilateral meetings, receptions, or panels without prior written approval.
“Only the official Government delegation, as cleared in writing by the Chief of Staff, will be authorised to travel and participate,” the Presidency stressed.
It further noted that all pending or previously accepted invitations stand suspended unless re-authorised by the Chief of Staff. Requests for consideration must be channelled through supervising ministers for approval.
The directive warned that any official who flouts the order will face strict sanctions in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Public Office Holders and the Civil and Public Service Codes of Conduct.
The government explained that the measure is part of President Mahama’s Resetting Ghana Agenda, aimed at promoting discipline, reducing waste, and ensuring lean but effective national representation on the global stage.
