NACOC arrests alleged drug ‘queen’ in Budumburam raid

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a 32-year-old woman described as a key figure in the local drug trade following a targeted operation in Budumburam and surrounding communities in the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region.

The operation, conducted on Friday, January 16, 2026, formed part of NACOC’s ongoing nationwide campaign to clamp down on drug trafficking and substance abuse.

The suspect, identified as Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, popularly known as “Mother,” was picked up during the exercise after weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance by NACOC operatives. Opinion leaders in the area had reportedly described her as a notorious figure who had previously evaded arrest despite several complaints linked to her activities.

According to NACOC, the raid led to the seizure of quantities of suspected cannabis, tramadol, and other controlled substances, as well as items believed to be connected to drug peddling.

“She has been on our intelligence radar for some time due to her alleged involvement in the sale and distribution of illicit drugs,” a NACOC official said, adding that multiple complaints had been received from the public regarding activities associated with the suspects currently in custody.

The Commission said the operation was successful due to coordinated efforts by its intelligence and enforcement teams and forms part of broader measures to rid communities of drug-related activities.

NACOC has assured the public of its commitment to making Ghana drug-free and confirmed that all suspects arrested during the operation will be processed and arraigned before the court in accordance with the law.
