NDC opens nominations for Ayawaso East primaries on January 24

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced detailed guidelines and a timetable for the conduct of its Ayawaso East Constituency parliamentary primaries in the Greater Accra Region, as the party prepares to elect a parliamentary candidate for the 2026 polls.

In a press release dated January 20, 2026, and signed by the General Secretary of the party, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC said the arrangements are intended to ensure a transparent, orderly, and fair internal electoral process.

According to the party, nomination forms for the primaries will be available at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the NDC, where completed forms must also be submitted.

Aspirants will be granted access to the official delegates’ list only after verification of payment of the approved filing fee into the party’s official bank account.

The cost of nomination forms has been pegged at GH¢5,000, while the filing fee stands at GH¢40,000. However, the party announced a 50 per cent reduction in filing fees for female aspirants and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs), as part of efforts to promote inclusiveness within its internal democratic processes.

“No cheques or bankers’ drafts shall be accepted. All payments must be made directly into the Party’s official bank account,” the release stressed, adding that strict compliance with the payment procedure is required.

Outlining the timetable for the primaries, the party said nominations will officially open on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Regional Office. Submission of nomination forms and filing will take place on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, within the same time frame.

Vetting, balloting, and appeals are scheduled for Wednesday, January 28, 2026, while the parliamentary primaries themselves will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, at designated venues within the constituency.

The NDC urged all aspirants and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the timelines and rules outlined and to conduct their campaigns in a manner that reflects unity, decency, and fairness.

“The Party urges all aspirants to adhere fully to these guidelines and to conduct their activities with decency, unity, and in the true spirit of fairness and internal democracy,” Hon. Kwetey stated.
