NDC reassigns Ayariga, appoints Inusah Fuseini to Ayawaso East probe

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed former Tamale Central MP and ex-Minister, Inusah Fuseini, to replace Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga on the party’s committee probing allegations of vote buying during the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary.

The decision follows Mr Ayariga’s withdrawal from the committee after the NDC Majority Caucus in Parliament publicly called for the annulment of the Ayawaso East primary and the disqualification of any candidates found culpable of inducement. Party sources say his continued presence on the committee had become untenable in light of that position.

Confirming the change in a Facebook post, the NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, said the adjustment was necessary to preserve the credibility of the process, stressing that “the party remains committed to upholding the highest integrity in its internal electoral process.”

The February 7, 2026, Ayawaso East primary has been marred by allegations that some delegates were induced with items including television sets and boiled eggs, sparking widespread claims of vote buying.

The controversy has placed the party’s parliamentary candidate, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, under intense public scrutiny, though he has denied any wrongdoing.

The three-member committee investigating the matter is chaired by former Information Minister Kofi Totobi Quakyi, with Emefa Fugah and now Inusah Fuseini as members. The committee is expected to submit its findings by February 10, 2026, alongside recommendations aimed at curbing inducement and vote buying in the NDC’s internal elections.
