NDC sets guidelines for Tamale Central primary on Sept 6

The Northern Regional Directorate of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has released guidelines for the conduct of the Tamale Central parliamentary primary, scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2025.

In a notice signed by Dr. Arnold Mashud Abukari, Director of Elections and IT, voting will commence at 9:00 a.m. and close at exactly 2:00 p.m.

According to the directive, the election will involve four ballot boxes, each assigned to a specific electoral area.

Delegates will be issued QR-code-enabled tags with their details and will also be required to present an additional form of identification, such as a voter ID card, Ghana Card, or party membership card.

For security, about 250 joint security officers will be deployed. Accredited observers will only be permitted to sit at the supporters’ stands and will not be allowed into the inner perimeter without prior approval.

Candidates are allowed to appoint four agents per ballot box, though only one will be permitted to sign the collated results sheet. Each candidate may also enter the inner perimeter with two accredited representatives.

The NDC stressed that delegates will not be allowed to enter voting booths with mobile phones. Additionally, candidates are prohibited from transporting delegates to the venue or campaigning within the voting grounds.

Polling stations have been designated to serve specific areas:

  • Polling Station 1 – Regional and constituency executives, Agric Mohiyebihi, Gumbihini North, and Aboaboo Ward.
  • Polling Station 2 – Moshi-Zongo, Tishigu, Salamba, ADB, Warizihi, and Gumbihini South.
  • Polling Station 3 – Dakpemfong, Buglanfong, Sabonjida, and Victory Wards.
  • Polling Station 4 – Changli, Choggu West, Dohinaayili, Zogbeli, and Lamacara.

Dr. Abukari assured delegates and stakeholders that the measures were designed to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible election process in line with the NDC’s commitment to fairness and internal democracy.

The primary has been necessitated by the death of the sitting MP, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who died in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, alongside seven others.
