The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that it will begin registering Ghanaian children between the ages of six and 14 at all its Premium Centres across the country.

In a statement dated Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the Authority said the exercise forms part of its mandate to ensure every Ghanaian, both at home and abroad, has a secure and verifiable national identity. It added that the initiative is also aimed at building a comprehensive and inclusive National Identity Register (NIR) that captures citizens from childhood.
The fee for first-time registration at Premium Centres has been set at GH¢310, in line with approved charges for premium services. Parents or legal guardians are required to present one of the following documents on behalf of their wards:
-
A valid Ghanaian passport of the child;
-
The original copy of the child’s birth certificate; or
-
A Ghana Card holder parent or legal guardian who can vouch for the child.
The NIA further disclosed that, effective Monday, September 15, 2025, its online registration and booking system will be extended to all 11 remaining Premium Centres nationwide, allowing applicants to conveniently schedule appointments.
The Authority assured the public that Ghana Cards for children already registered will be issued in due course. It also revealed plans to roll out registration services at all NIA District Offices across the country in the coming weeks to expand access.
