NPP General Secretary Urges President Akufo-Addo to Consider Cabinet Reshuffle

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has publicly called on President Akufo-Addo to contemplate a reshuffle of his government. Against the backdrop of evolving challenges and changing dynamics, Frimpong argues that a reshuffle could bring new energy, expertise, and perspectives to key ministerial positions, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the government.

Citing the practice of reshuffling cabinets as a common strategy in parliamentary systems, Frimpong notes that it provides leaders with the flexibility to adapt to evolving circumstances, address shortcomings, and align the government with its policy objectives.

Speaking at the party’s annual Thanksgiving Service, Frimpong emphasized the urgency of a reshuffle in the party’s pursuit of “breaking the eight.” He urged the President not to let the party down and suggested that government appointees whose actions impact the party negatively should consider voluntary resignation.

“If you are a Minister, a CEO, or an MMDCE and you have not been reshuffled and you think you are tired, resign, don’t sabotage the party,” Frimpong urged.

He highlighted the need for changes in the government to introduce new faces and perspectives, expressing the belief that such appointments could contribute to retaining power in the next election. The call for a reshuffle suggests a desire for a more responsive and adaptable administration.
