The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly dismissed allegations by former Environment Minister, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, that its 2023 presidential primary was manipulated in favour of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

In a statement released on January 13, 2026, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party described the allegations as baseless and unsubstantiated, following comments made by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng during a Channel One TV interview on Monday, January 12.
“The Party unequivocally rejects Professor Frimpong Boateng’s unfortunate characterization of the NPP and firmly denies his baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 Presidential Primary,” the statement stated
During the interview, the former minister alleged that the party’s presidential primary was rigged, a claim the NPP says it unequivocally rejects.
“The said primary has been widely acknowledged by all candidates who participated, as well as by well-meaning members of the Party, as having been conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner,” the statement stressed.
The party further stated that the outcome of the election faithfully reflected the will of delegates and reaffirmed its confidence in the integrity of its internal democratic processes.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the winner of the 2023 presidential primary and went on to lead the NPP into the 2024 general elections.
The NPP cautioned against statements it believes could damage public confidence in the party’s internal elections and unity.
