Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Majority Leader of Parliament, has voluntarily stepped down from his position to lead the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Election 2024 policy and manifesto team. After 23 years of service in various parliamentary leadership roles, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s move is aimed at spearheading the NPP’s campaign efforts, aligning with the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the current deputy Majority Leader, is poised to succeed Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, a decision seen as strategic by the NPP given Afenyo-Markin’s youth and central region roots. As parties gear up for the 2024 elections, this shift in leadership underscores the NPP’s strategic planning to secure electoral success, particularly in pivotal swing regions like the Central Region.
