“Parliament Gears Up for a Busy Session: 82 Bills on the Agenda as Fourth Session Begins”

In an announcement on February 5, 2024, Parliament declared that today, February 6th, 2024, marks the commencement of the First Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 8th Parliament. Promptly at 10:00 am, the session will convene, showcasing an impressive lineup of 82 Bills to be presented to the House.

Several significant bills are on the agenda, including the Aged Persons Bill, 2023, the Advertising Council Bill, 2023, the Consumer Protection Bill, 2023, the Public University Bill, and the 2023 Ghana Road Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2023. These bills cover a wide range of important topics and are expected to generate engaging debates and discussions.

In addition, the House will devote attention to twelve bills that presently reside at the committee level. Noteworthy among them are the Affirmative Action (Gender Equality) Bill, 2023, which lies within the purview of the Committee on Gender and Children, and the Social Protection Bill, 2023, also falling under the Committee on Gender and Children. These bills hold immense significance in promoting gender equality and safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable individuals.

Furthermore, two private member’s bills that are the Office of the Special Prosecutor (Amendment) Bill, 2021, and the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2023, will attain due consideration before the House adjourns for the general elections recess. These bills, put forth by individual members, hold personal conviction and are expected to elicit passionate exchanges among the parliamentarians.
