The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted more than 1,600 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs following a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation along the Akosombo–Tema Road.

According to the Police, the operation, which forms part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking in the region, was carried out after intelligence was received on January 10, 2026, indicating that large quantities of suspected narcotic substances were being transported from the Volta Region towards Tema.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Assistant Superintendent of Police Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs, said that acting on the tip-off, police teams mounted surveillance along the route, concentrating on the Agomeda Junction area.
“At about 12:45 a.m. on January 11, 2026, two vehicles, a white Toyota Highlander with registration number GS 2013-13 and a black Mitsubishi Pajero with registration number GC 400-22, were intercepted,” the Police said in a statement.
The vehicles were driven by Isaac Odoi, 33, and Kwame Mani, 39. A search conducted on the vehicles led to the discovery of several compressed yellow-wrapped parcels suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The suspects were immediately arrested, and both vehicles were escorted to the police station for further action.
On January 12, 2026, the exhibits and suspects were handed over to the Tema Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID), where inventories and photographs were taken. Police confirmed that 872 parcels were retrieved from the Mitsubishi Pajero, while 741 parcels were found in the Toyota Highlander, bringing the total to 1,613 parcels.
“The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations,” the statement noted, adding that samples of the substances will be sent to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for analysis.
Police also disclosed that searches will be conducted at the suspects’ residences and that preparations are underway to process them for court.
The Tema Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities and appealed to the public to continue providing credible information to support security efforts.
