The Upper East Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a deadly robbery along the Zebilla–Widnaba road in the Bawku Division, which claimed the life of a police officer on duty.

Preliminary reports indicate that on Sunday, 8th February 2026, two police officers travelling towards Zebilla encountered the robbery in progress. The assailants reportedly opened fire, striking one of the officers.
Responding promptly to a distress call, a police team rushed the injured officer to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead. His body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
The Upper East Regional Police Command has confirmed that a special operation is underway to track and apprehend all individuals involved in the incident. Authorities have vowed to ensure that those responsible face the full rigours of the law.
The tragic loss of the officer has sent shockwaves through the local police community, highlighting the risks law enforcement personnel face while serving on the frontlines.
