President Akufo-Addo Affirms Non-Intervention in Investigation Against Cecilia Dapaah

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has asserted that he has not intervened in the ongoing investigation involving former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dappah. Speaking at the launch of the evaluation of Ghana’s National Anti-Corruption Action Plan at the Jubilee House in Accra, the President underscored his commitment to non-interference in investigations against government appointees.

President Akufo-Addo stated, “No evidence or allegation has been forthcoming that the executive has made any attempt to influence the outcome of any of these investigations. The latest episode involving the former Minister for Sanitation, the Honourable Cecilia Abena Dapaah, is evident for all to see.”

He further highlighted the extent of investigations and inquiries involving officials within his administration, emphasizing that the government subjects its officials to scrutiny without interference. The President expressed awareness of the rarity of such transparency, stating, “I am not aware of any government in the Fourth Republic subjecting so many of its officials to such investigations and enquiries.”

In contrasting examples, President Akufo-Addo noted convictions of officials from the previous administration, illustrating the government’s commitment to addressing corruption. He mentioned individuals like William Matthew Tetteh Tevi, Alhaji Salifu Osman, and Eugene Baffour Bonney in the $4 million NCA’s scandal, who have been tried and convicted, and ongoing trials such as that of Dr. Stephen Opuni, former CEO of COCOBOD, and Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader.

The President’s remarks highlight the administration’s dedication to maintaining transparency and accountability in the face of corruption allegations, emphasizing the importance of due process in addressing such matters.
