“Presidential Office Calls for Pause on Anti-Gay Bill Amid Legal Challenges”

The Office of the President has formally requested Parliament to refrain from forwarding the anti-gay bill to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his approval. This directive, as articulated by Nana Bediatuo Asante, the Secretary to the President, is based on the acknowledgment of two pending applications for an order of interlocutory injunction before the Supreme Court.

These applications aim to prevent Parliament from transmitting the Bill to the President and to prohibit the President from granting his assent to the Bill until the final resolution of the matter. In a statement issued by Nana Bediatuo on Monday, it was revealed that the Attorney-General had notified the President, via a letter dated March 18, 2024, confirming receipt of both applications.

Additionally, the Attorney-General advised the President to refrain from any action concerning the Bill until the Supreme Court resolves the issues raised by the legal proceedings.
