Renovation Commences at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital as Part of “Heal Komfo Anokye” Project

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has initiated renovation works as part of the “Heal Komfo Anokye” project, aiming to raise $10 million for the refurbishment of the hospital. The launch of the renovation project signifies a commitment to improving healthcare facilities, addressing community needs, and creating a modern environment for patients and healthcare professionals.

The decision to embark on this renovation project underscores the hospital’s dedication to maintaining high standards and aligning with modern healthcare requirements. The extensive improvements include upgrading infrastructure, renovating patient care areas, optimizing medical equipment and technology, and enhancing overall accessibility.

The CEO of KATH, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, expressed gratitude for the encouraging public response to the fundraising campaign, revealing that approximately 60% of the $10 million target has been achieved through pledges and cash donations in just two months.

Professor Addai-Mensah emphasized the urgent need for contributions from philanthropic individuals and entities to address the deteriorating state of the hospital’s facilities. The renovation project will focus initially on repairing leaking roofs in the hospital blocks.

As part of the hospital’s innovative initiatives, an arrangement with Ghana Post will enable the delivery of refill medicines by courier to chronic stable patients nationwide, reducing the need for patients to travel to the hospital for medications.

The renovation works, expected to be completed in 2024, aim to give a significant facelift to KATH, the second-largest teaching hospital in Ghana. The project will also serve as a legacy to mark the 25th anniversary of Otumfuo’s enstoolment.
