President John Dramani Mahama has moved swiftly to de-escalate tensions in the Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region, following renewed clashes between the Gonja and Brifor communities.

The President, who returned over the weekend from a state visit to Singapore, was briefed by the National Security Coordinator and the Minister for the Interior on the security situation.
In a direct intervention, President Mahama held a phone discussion with the Yagbonwura, Jira Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, to map out immediate steps toward ending the conflict and restoring peace.
As part of the peace-building efforts, he has dispatched a government delegation led by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak, to meet the Yagbonwura and other key stakeholders.
Security in the area has also been reinforced with additional police and military deployment.
“The President has urged all parties to support the initiatives underway to end the conflict and restore normalcy,” a statement from the Presidency noted.
Mr. Mahama has further directed the government delegation to work closely with the Regional Security Council, traditional authorities, and community leaders to promote dialogue and peacefully resolve outstanding disputes.
