Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has cautioned members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to desist from engaging in internal attacks, as well as tribal and religious divisions, stressing that such actions only weaken the party ahead of the 2028 elections.

Speaking at the NPP headquarters after submitting his nomination forms, Dr. Bawumia noted that the party’s main opponent is the National Democratic Congress (NDC), not fellow patriots. “The repeated attacks by our own party folk on one another are absolutely unhelpful. What we say against each other is what the NDC will use against us in 2028. If you claim you are a true patriot and want this party to win in 2028, then stop it. Please don’t lecture us about how blue your blood is. Let your actions show. Stop the internal attacks now. Stop the religious and tribal attacks NOW,” he charged.
Dr. Bawumia further emphasized the need for unity, pointing out that the party cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of 2024 when internal wrangling and economic hardships cost the NPP victory. He assured delegates that his leadership would focus on building bridges within the party while also presenting a strong front against the ruling NDC.
The former Vice President also addressed the issue of persistent personal attacks targeted at him, both from political opponents and elements within his own party. He maintained that such attacks have only strengthened his resolve to lead. “I am not oblivious to the fact that the NDC and lately elements within our own family subject me to daily attacks. In fact, I expect that there will be more attacks in the coming months and years. But if I have learnt anything from our history, it includes the fact that a man must be formidable so that no matter the adversity, he stands tall, focused, and resolute,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia assured party delegates that despite all the criticisms, he remains committed to the values of the NPP and will continue to demonstrate calm, resilience, and vision in leading the party to victory in 2028.
