Tamale Central: NDC’s Prof. Seidu files nomination to contest by-election

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Tamale Central, Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu, has formally submitted his nomination form to the Electoral Commission (EC) ahead of the constituency’s by-election set for Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Prof. Seidu, who emerged as the party’s choice after a landslide victory in the primaries held at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Saturday, September 6, polled 840 votes out of a total of 1,511. His closest contender, Abdul Hannan Gundado, garnered 536 votes.

Meanwhile, the Tamale Metro EC Director, Anaba Samson, confirmed that at least four other aspirants, representing the All People’s Congress (APC), Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), People’s National Convention (PNC), and an Independent candidate, have picked forms but are yet to complete the process. The deadline for submission is Wednesday, September 10.

The Tamale Central seat became vacant following the passing of MP Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
