National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Akwatia by-election, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, says he is confident of victory in Tuesday’s polls, even though he is unsure of the margin.

Speaking to journalists after casting his ballot on September 2, 2025, Baidoo declared,
“As for the win, it is a done deal. I can assure you. I can tell you on authority that I can win the election. What we are working on is the margin of win. Call me in the next two hours and I can tell you the margin.”
He explained that his confidence stems from the feedback he received during his campaign engagements with the electorate.
“I made it clear that I will win the elections. I never said so before campaigning, but after campaigning,g I said it because these are people you engage with, and when you talk, they can talk back at you, and you can make meaning out of the things they say to you. I know what they said,” he added.
Commenting on the voting process, Baidoo praised the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and residents for ensuring a calm and orderly election.
“The elections have been very peaceful, and that’s the prayer that we prayed. And so far, it’s been very good. I have been to two-thirds of the polling stations that we have and I am very impressed with the way the security officers, the EC, and the electorates have conducted themselves. It’s been very peaceful,” he remarked.
Voting is currently underway across 119 polling stations, with more than 50,000 registered voters expected to cast their ballots in the highly contested by-election.
The election was necessitated by the death of the constituency’s MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
