‘They died for sovereignty’: ACUC honours 32 fallen Cuban internationalists

The AfriKan Continental Union Consult (ACUC), Ghana Chapter, has issued a solidarity statement in honour of 32 Cuban internationalists who lost their lives during a United States military intervention in Venezuela, describing them as “soldiers of international solidarity” who died defending the sovereignty of a sister nation.

The group said the fallen Cubans were not occupiers or mercenaries but individuals who embodied Cuba’s long-standing commitment to anti-imperialist struggle and global justice.

In the statement signed by its Ghana Chapter Convener, Benjamin Anyagre Aziginaateeg, ACUC recalled Cuba’s historic role in Africa and Latin America, noting that

“Cuban blood was shed on African soil not for plunder, but for liberation, dignity, and shared humanity.”

The organisation condemned what it described as imperial aggression against sovereign states and accused the United States of sustaining global dominance through war, coercion, and intervention in the Global South.

The group further called on Washington to end its decades-long blockade and hostile policies toward Cuba, insisting that the Caribbean nation poses no threat to U.S. security and has instead contributed significantly to global peace through medical, educational, and humanitarian support.

ACUC reaffirmed its solidarity with the Cuban people and revolutionary government, declaring that any aggression against Cuba is an aggression against human liberty, fairness, and justice, and pledged continued moral and political support for Cuba’s sovereignty.

FROM THE GRATEFUL AFRIKANS TO THE BENEVOLENT PEOPLE OF CUBA

International Solidarity and Anti-Imperialist Resistance:
A Commemorative Analysis of Sacrifice and the Unyielding Struggle for Global Sovereignty

A Solemn Tribute to the 32 Fallen Cuban Internationalists
In Solidarity with the Revolutionary Government, the Bereaved Families, and the People of Cuba

The Revolutionary Government of Cuba embodies the will of a courageous, disciplined, and combative people—a nation that has relentlessly defended its dignity, sovereignty, and commitment to justice against imperial aggression.

Progressive forces worldwide must see with clarity: imperialism sustains itself through war, destruction, and death, employing violence to expand dominance and seize control over nations and resources.

In sacred memory, we honor the remains of the 32 Cuban combatants who fell in Caracas, now resting with revolutionary dignity in Havana’s Colón Cemetery. They were not mercenaries or occupiers; they were soldiers of international solidarity, standing beside a sister nation in defense of its sovereignty. Across Africa, millions remember that Cuban blood was shed on African soil not for plunder, but for liberation, dignity, and shared humanity.

At Havana’s Revolution Square, progressive humanity bows in respect to these valiant fighters, who lost their lives amid a U.S. military intervention in Venezuela—an operation that violated sovereignty and forcibly kidnapped the nation’s legitimate President, Nicolás Maduro. Their sacrifice underscores the brutal, enduring cost of imperial intervention in the Global South.

To their families and to Cuba, we extend deepest condolences in the uncompromising spirit of the Revolution:
Homeland or Death — We Shall Overcome.

Unlike imperial powers that foment division, espionage, and proxy wars to justify the looting of resources, Cuba’s internationalism is rooted in solidarity, cooperation, and human dignity. From Africa to Latin America, Cuba has sent doctors, teachers, engineers, and principled soldiers—never forces of extraction or domination.

The return of these heroes resonates with the legacy of José Martí, Antonio Maceo, CheGuevera and Fidel Castro, affirming that “death is not real when one has fulfilled the work of life with integrity.”
Their names are now etched into the inks of the struggle for liberty, resisting fascist intrusions into the sovereign life of the people of Bolívar.

This moment is both one of mourning and a grave warning-
To the powers seated in the White House, past, present, and future: Cuba has shed noble blood resisting global injustice and the exploitation of humankind.
Cuba has endured – after 67 years of blockade, aggression, sabotage, and subversion – the failure of the United States to break the Cuban Revolution must prompt sober reflection.

The United States must finally confront the reality of Cuba’s unyielding sovereignty, its people-centered model of social justice, and its unwavering promotion of peace and solidarity worldwide.
The policy of blackmail, coercion, and intimidation against Cuba must end.

Cuba poses no threat to U.S. security; history itself records moments when Cuban cooperation bolstered regional and international stability.

Remembering that – in 1984, Cuba’s alert prevented the assassination of Ronald Reagan in the United States through apt intelligence.

Importantly, there is no country in the world that have not benefited from the generosity of Cuba.

Cuba remains open to purposeful, sovereign dialogue with the United States—grounded in international law, mutual respect, non-interference, and the absolute recognition of the Cuban hard won independence.

Let this be clear:
any aggression against Cuba is an aggression against human liberty, fairness and justice, which shall be met with resolute clarity, unwavering resilience, and the moral support of the world’s majority.

Few nations have given so much, to so many, while asking so little in return.

Cuba stands firm—rooted in history, strengthened by sacrifice, and unwavering in principle.

Homeland or Death.
We Shall Overcome.
