Three teen armed robbers jailed in Kumasi after Boubai attack

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed the conviction and sentencing of three teenage armed robbers who attacked residents at Boubai in the Asokore Mampong Municipality on July 1, 2025.

In a press release issued on July 9, 2025, the Ghana Police Service stated the suspects, Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari, all aged 18, were arrested after a swift intervention by community volunteers who tracked them to a hideout in Aboabo later that same day.

The volunteers handed over the suspects, along with ten recovered mobile phones and three stolen bags, to the police.

“On July 1, 2025, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., suspects Mamudu Issah (18), Samuel Takyi (18), and Alhassan Abubakari (18), in the company of three other accomplices currently at large, riding on two unregistered motorbikes and wielding machetes, attacked and robbed some residents at Boubai in the Asokore Mampong municipality of mobile phones, bags, and cash,”

The trio appeared before the Atasemanso Circuit Court in Kumasi on Monday, July 8, 2025, where they all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and seven counts of robbery.

In addition, Mamudu Issah admitted to a separate charge of causing harm during the robbery.

The court sentenced:

Mamudu Issah to 10 years on the robbery-related charges and an additional 3 years for causing harm (to run concurrently),
Samuel Takyi and Alhassan Abubakari to 10 years each on the robbery charges (also to run concurrently).

All three have since been transferred to the Central Prisons in Kumasi to begin serving their terms.

The police commended the community volunteers for their pivotal role in the arrests and encouraged the public to continue supporting crime prevention efforts through vigilance and timely reporting.
