Tragedy at KNUST: Student dies after falling from second-floor hostel

Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has confirmed the death of one of its students, describing the incident as a heartbreaking loss to the university community.

In a statement issued and signed by the University Relations Officer, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, on Monday, February 9 2026, the university said the deceased, Mr. Ransford Amankwah Asomani, was a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness Management.

According to preliminary information, Ransford Amankwah Asomani fell from the second floor of an off-campus hostel at Ayeduase in the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026.

He was rushed to the KNUST Hospital by his colleagues, with support from the KNUST District Police Patrol Team, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

His parents have since been informed, and the body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Management expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire university community.

“KNUST is deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident,” the statement said.

The KNUST Police, working in collaboration with the university’s security services, have commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. University authorities assured that further updates would be provided once investigations are concluded.

KNUST reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, security, and well-being of all students and staff.
