WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR ABOUT THE TRAINS GHANA IS ACQUIRING FROM POLAND

These are specifically the RegioFox 847 Series vehicles, boasting a capacity of 115 passengers per unit and capable of reaching speeds up to 120 km/hr. Information gathered from a Czech Republic user, who has procured similar vehicles currently undergoing testing, confirms these specifications.

The trains are characterized by modern features, promising efficiency and a robust power output of 750 KW. They can seamlessly integrate with state-of-the-art Signalling systems, including the ETCS (European Train Control System). According to Ing. Gonza, an expert from Black Star Rail Limited in East Legon, a company actively engaged in signaling systems for clients worldwide, this system represents the latest in signaling technology.

The question of whether Ghana will adopt the same signaling system on the Tema to Mpakadan route, known for its high safety standards, ensuring the protection of both passengers and the trains from collisions, remains unanswered. Further consultations by this platform with the Ghana Ministry of Railways and experts from Blackstar Rail will determine the decision.

The trains are fully air-conditioned with specially designed comfortable seats aimed at enhancing the passenger experience. Passengers onboard can access electrical sockets, complete with USB ports for phone charging, stay connected to WIFI, and receive information through the inbuilt state-of-the-art Passenger Information System (PIS). Notably, the trains feature a retractable platform, facilitating easy boarding, even for wheelchairs or physically challenged citizens.

An additional distinctive feature of these trains is their ability to run on HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) biofuel from plants, providing an alternative to diesel. The power units are equipped with low-emission Rolls-Royce engines complying with Stage five emission limits.
