Z-9 Helicopter Crash: Investigation Board begins 30-day inquiry

The Ministry of Defence has announced that the board set up to investigate the recent crash of a Z-9 helicopter has officially commenced work.

The Board is chaired by the National Security Coordinator, with membership drawn from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

In a statement signed by Acting Defence Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, disclosed that the United States of America is also providing technical advice and assistance.

“The United States of America is providing advice and assistance to the board through visiting investigators from the U.S. Air Force.”

The Board has the authority to invite other relevant experts and institutions, both local and international, to assist in the process.

It will be recalled that, on the day of the incident, August 6, 2025, a preliminary investigation team was constituted to gather available evidence in support of the Board’s work. The Ministry confirmed that the team is scheduled to present its findings to the Board today.

“The Investigation Board has been mandated to complete its work within 30 days,” the statement added.

The Defence Ministry assured the public of its commitment to transparency and a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
