Parliament is set to begin the vetting of the first batch of ministerial nominees presented by President John Dramani Mahama today, Monday, January 13, 2025.

The vetting process will be conducted by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, which was constituted on January 9, 2025. The nominees to be vetted today include Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, John Abdulai Jinapor, and Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine.

The vetting will commence with Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam and the current Majority Leader. He has been nominated as the Minister-designate for Finance.

Dr. Forson’s nomination comes at a critical time for Ghana’s economy, which is grappling with high inflation, mounting public debt, and calls for sustainable economic reforms. As Finance Minister-designate, his vetting is expected to shed light on his strategies to address these economic challenges.

Next on the committee’s agenda is John Abdulai Jinapor, who has been nominated as the Minister-designate for Energy.

Jinapor, a former Deputy Minister of Energy and a seasoned politician, is expected to outline his plans for tackling key energy sector issues such as unreliable power supply, renewable energy development, and the energy sector’s debt burden. His vetting will provide insights into his vision for stabilizing and transforming the energy sector to support Ghana’s growing economy.

The final nominee for today’s vetting is Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East. He has been nominated as the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice-designate.

Dr. Ayine, a renowned legal practitioner, academic, and former Deputy Attorney-General, is widely recognized for his expertise in constitutional law and governance. As the principal legal advisor to the government, he is expected to address issues of legal reform, promote the rule of law, and ensure justice for all Ghanaians.

The outcomes of today’s vetting sessions will provide clarity on the nominees’ readiness to assume their respective roles and address the pressing challenges facing the country.
