A building under construction at the premises of the Architectural Engineering Group at Roman Ridge in Accra has collapsed, trapping an unspecified number of people under the debris.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, October 28, caused panic among workers and residents in the area. Emergency response teams from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Headquarters rushed to the scene and have since been working tirelessly to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble.

In a post on its official Facebook page, the GNFS confirmed the development, stating that the collapse happened earlier in the day.

“Our personnel are on-site conducting search and rescue operations,” the GNFS said.

As of Tuesday evening, the number of people trapped and the cause of the collapse had not yet been confirmed. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with residents gathering near the site while emergency responders worked under intense pressure.

Officials from the GNFS say the operation involves the use of heavy equipment and specialised rescue tools to reach those believed to be trapped.

“We are deploying all available resources to ensure that anyone trapped is rescued safely,” a GNFS officer at the scene told reporters.

Authorities have since cordoned off the area to ensure public safety, while an investigation is expected to be launched to determine the cause of the collapse once rescue operations are completed.

The GNFS has urged the public to stay clear of the area to allow emergency teams to work efficiently.
