The government of Ghana has intensified its fight against corruption and organised crime, with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) reporting significant successes in recovering stolen public funds and prosecuting offenders.

These achievements were highlighted during President John Dramani Mahama’s 2026 State of the Nation Address, reflecting the administration’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and strengthening key institutions.
President Mahama informed Parliament that, as of December 2025, EOCO had recovered more than GHS 600 million in stolen funds. The agency has investigated 462 cases involving alleged economic and organised crime, with 15 of those cases currently before the courts.
In addition to financial recoveries, EOCO has successfully dismantled transnational car‑jacking syndicates, resulting in the recovery of 29 luxury vehicles that had been stolen.
Delivering the update, the President said: “The government remains resolute that corruption will not be tolerated regardless of status or political affiliation. The Attorney General’s Office will continue to use both criminal prosecution and non‑conviction‑based asset recovery mechanisms to ensure that stolen public resources are returned for national development.”
His remarks reflect an emphasis on the rule of law and institutional reform as central pillars of his administration’s agenda. By reinforcing EOCO’s mandate and pushing for both prosecutions and asset returns, the government aims to not only punish wrongdoing but also restore confidence in public institutions.
These developments come amid broader efforts to strengthen governance, enhance transparency, and ensure that recovered resources are used to support national development priorities.
