A Chinese detainee from Nsawam Prison escapes while receiving medical attention at Korle Bu Hospital.

Wang Xiao, a prisoner at the Nsawam Prison, was serving a one-year sentence for theft.
He is believed to have reported being unwell and in need of dental care outside the prison.

He was brought to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

However, while receiving medical attention, he apparently escaped from the custody of the jail officials who had accompanied him to the hospital.

The catastrophe occurred on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. The Ghana Prisons Service confirmed the occurrence.
DSP Irene Pokuah Wiredu, Head of Media Relations at the Ghana Prisons Service, verified the event and stated that the service has subsequently issued a wanted person notice seeking public assistance in re-arresting the convict.

The detainee was taken to Korle Bu for dental treatment. The convict was apprehended in Tema, tried in court for stealing, and sentenced to one year in Nsawam Prison.

The convict is allegedly on trial in another case involving serious charges.

Investigations are underway, and all cops involved in the incident are being interrogated.
