The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has verified that no fatalities occurred following the emergency landing of one of its helicopters. Additionally, GAF has assured that all passengers involved in the helicopter crash-landing have been safely located.
On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, the aircraft experienced a crash-landing near Bonsukrom, situated in the vicinity of Agona Nkwanta within the Western Region. The helicopter, now under the secure watch of Air Force personnel, carried 21 passengers, including staff from the Petroleum sector regulators.
The helicopter made an emergency landing in a bush near the Bonsokrom community, prompting concern among residents. In an official statement released by GAF on March 19, signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quarshie, Director General of Public Relations, it was confirmed that routine medical examinations are underway to ensure the well-being of all individuals.
Brigadier General Aggrey-Quarshie stated, “All passengers on board have been accounted for and there were no fatalities. However, they have been evacuated and are currently undergoing routine medical checkup.” Furthermore, preliminary assessments have commenced to determine the cause of the incident.
The helicopter, which carried 21 passengers consisting of staff from the Ghana National Gas Company and aircrew, was engaged in routine offshore powerline inspection of the Atuabo gas plant at the time of the occurrence.
