BET And MTV To Air 2024 Tanzania Music Awards

The organisers of the Tanzania Music Awards (TMAs) have announced that this year’s event, set to take place on 15 June, will be aired on the MTV and BET television networks.

The news was revealed by TMAs committee vice-chairperson Christine ‘Seven’ Mosha during a press conference held in Dar es Salaam this week.

Mosha said the two channels would serve as media partners and sponsors for the event and that they had jointly selected six categories whose winners would be invited to attend the BET Awards in the US on 30 June.

“The winners of the selected categories will be given the opportunity to attend the awards ceremony, pre- and post-parties, and mingle with African artists who may also be nominated for the music awards,” Mosha said.

“The pre-party will feature various performances, providing the artists with a platform to showcase their talent. This collaboration between the Tanzania Music Awards, MTV and BET aims at elevating the recognition and celebration of Tanzanian music on an international scale.”

Paramount Africa senior vice-president and BET International lead Monde Twala said the move aligned with the network’s vision of celebrating, elevating and showcasing the power of music and creativity to inspire young Africans.

“BET and MTV Base are excited to be the official media partners of the Tanzanian Music Awards. As Paramount we remain committed to partnerships that continue to spotlight African pop culture and talent on the global stage,” he said.

The TMAs, held annually since 1999, recognise outstanding Tanzanian musicians and music industry professionals. Winners at the 2023 edition were announced at a gala ceremony held at the Super Dome in Masaki, Dar es Salaam, on 29 April.

The biggest winner of the night was singer Zuchu who bagged five awards. Other winners included Harmonize, Diamond Platnumz, Rayvanny, Jay Melody and Rosa Ree.

Foreign acts were also honoured at the awards, with the likes of Nigeria’s Kizz Daniel, Kenya’s Khaligraph Jones and the late South African rapper Costa Titch awarded for their success in both Tanzania and across the continent.
