GRIDCo Attributes “Dumsor” in Accra Central to ECOMOG Fire Outbreak

The Ghana Grid Company LTD. (GRIDCo) has identified a fire incident at the ECOMOG area near Circle-Odawna as the cause of the recent power outages in central Accra and its surrounding areas.

The fire, which occurred on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, resulted in significant damage to parts of GRIDCo’s transmission cables and conductors. In a statement issued by Dzifa Bampoh, Manager of Corporate Communications, on Thursday, June 6, GRIDCo explained that the intensity of the fire caused parts of the transmission line to burn and break.

For safety reasons, GRIDCo has disconnected the compromised line to prevent the risk of electrocution.

“Due to the outage on the Achimota – Accra Central Transmission Line, residents in Accra Central and its environs are without power supply. Work is ongoing to restore power to affected areas by close of day today, June 6, 2024, while other rehabilitation works for the line continue,” the statement read.

GRIDCo expressed regret for any inconvenience caused.

The Ghana Grid Company LTD. (GRIDCo) informs the public of an outage to the 161kV Achimota to Accra Central Transmission line and conductors, following a fire outbreak at the Nkrumah Circle Rail line on Wednesday 5th June 2024.

The affected line has been isolated for safety reasons to prevent risk of electrocution. The intensity of the fire caused parts of the transmission line to burn and snap.

Due to the outage on the Achimota – Accra Central Transmission Line, residents in Accra Central and its environs are without power supply.

Work is ongoing to restore power to affected areas by close of day today, June 6, 2024, while other rehabilitation works for the line continue.

GRIDCo apologises for the inconvenience caused.
