The University of Ghana has announced the temporary closure of the University Basic School (UBS).

This is in reaction to the ongoing strike action led by the Senior Staff Association – Universities of Ghana (SSA-UOG) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG).

As a result, all students in grades KG1 through Junior High (JH) 3 have been told to stay at home until further notice.
Special arrangements are being made for Junior High 3 pupils to be recalled so that they can begin their final test preparations.

“Our JH 3 students will however be called back to school in due course to continue with their preparation towards their final examinations after the necessary arrangements have been put in place to that effect.” the statement noted.

Similarly, KNUST basic schools have been closed as a result of the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC), Senior Staff Association – Universities of Ghana (SSA-UOG), and Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) declaring a strike.

In a statement available to 3news states that “I write to inform the University Community and the general public that the KNUST Basic School is being closed down, effective Tuesday, 30th January, 2024, until further notice.”
